Welcome to the Sun Lab!
Our lab is focused on leveraging large-scale clinical data to transform how we diagnosis and treat ocular conditions, such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. We are harnessing the power of “real-world” data from electronic health records, healthcare claims data, and medical imaging data to improve predictions of diagnosis detection and disease progression in ophthalmology. Through rule-based algorithms and natural language processing, we are more effectively and efficiently harnessing the vast wealth of information in clinical notes. We are interested in prospectively studying patients in a real-world setting using innovative electronic health record-based methods, including registry-based randomized controlled trials.
We work collaboratively with other clinician-scientists, biostatisticians and epidemiologists, analysts, and coordinators at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation, an Organized Research Unit at UCSF with the goal of preventing blindness worldwide.
