UCSF Ophthalmology Postdoctoral Training Program

Focused on mentoring, professional development, and recognition

Professional Development

1. Formal Co-mentorship

Within the first year, every postdoctoral associate selects a co-mentor who can provide input on their scientific and career trajectory, be their advocate with your mentor, provide letters of support, and help build their network.

2. Trainee Speaker Series

On the third Thursday of each month, two trainees present talks of ~20 min each. These are venues to present Research in Progress data, practice job talks and chalk talks, and get feedback on manuscripts or grants.

3. Networking

All postdoctoral associates are expected to attend weekly Grand Rounds, monthly Faculty talks (first Thursday), and monthly Trainee talks (fourth Thursday). To help build their network, postdoctoral associates also attend lunches with Basic Science Grand Rounds speakers hosted by the department.

4. Department of Ophthalmology Annual Research Day

Trainees present their research by giving talks and/or posters at the Annual Research Day in May. We have Best Poster and Best Presentation awards that come with cash prizes.
