8:30-9:15am–Case Presentations: Ocular Pathology(Michele Bloomer, MD)

9:15-10:00am–Grand Rounds Lecture: “Quantum Behavior: Resolving Neural Coding from Single Photons to Visually-guided Behavior”, Petri Ala-Laurila, PhD (Host: Yvonne Ou, MD)

  • Understand how vision at its sensitivity limit offers a unique possibility to link visually-guided behavior to retinal circuit function
  • Explain the primary retinal mechanisms allowing single-photon detection at visual threshold
  • Discuss how studying vision at the lowest light levels could inspire new strategies for diagnosing visual dysfunctions
